What to build

Playback returns to the Device automatically when its Bridge has the headset back: the Bridge is in STANDBY with a good signal for a dwell time (about ten seconds), and the Device pulls playback back from the Paired Device, keeping play or pause, and claims the Bridge.

Only a session that came from an Automatic Handoff is eligible. Skip, pause and seek on the phone keep it eligible; starting a new Queue there or a manual Handoff ends that. The dwell time joins the advanced setting in the Bridge Plugin view. See ADR 0026.

Acceptance criteria

  • After an Automatic Handoff, walking back into range: after the dwell time, playback continues on the PC at the phone's position and play/pause state
  • Standing at the edge of range (signal flapping) does not hand back and forth
  • A session started on the phone itself, or after a new Queue or a manual Handoff, is never pulled back
  • The dwell time can be changed in the Bridge Plugin view
  • Core tests cover eligibility and dwell with a fixture Bridge and two Devices

Blocked by

  • Bridge firmware: soft-released Bridge keeps reconnecting after link loss (BluetoothAudioLoop repo, .scratch/automatic-handoff/issues/01-soft-release-keeps-reconnecting.md; issues are off on that repo)

Implemented on integration branch automatic-handoff (merge c7cc63d), with code-review fixes in merge fcc0d8d. Lands on main when that branch is pushed and merged.
